The new 6 MW / 6 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on Sal Island was inaugurated in February by Cabeólica, S.A., marking another important step in the development of advanced energy storage infrastructure in Cabo Verde.
With a capacity of 6 MW / 6 MWh, the Sal Island BESS reinforces the reliability and flexibility of the island’s power system, supporting greater integration of renewable energy and strengthening overall grid stability.
This project is part of a broader programme aimed at enhancing the resilience and efficiency of Cabo Verde’s electricity system through energy storage solutions capable of supporting the integration of renewable generation and improving system flexibility.
As EPC contractor, WinPower, S.A. was responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the system, ensuring its integration with the existing infrastructure and compliance with high operational and safety standards.
The Sal Island BESS represents another milestone in Cabo Verde’s energy transition, demonstrating the role of storage technologies in building more stable, resilient and sustainable power systems, particularly in island contexts.
WinPower congratulates Cabeólica and all partners involved in this important achievement and is proud to contribute to the continued modernisation of Cabo Verde’s energy infrastructure.
