WinPower, S.A. is developing a new power generation project on Maio Island, Cabo Verde, designed to reinforce the island’s energy capacity and support a more stable and reliable electricity supply.

The engines for this new power generation solution are now in transit to the island, marking an important milestone in the implementation of the project.

The solution includes diesel engines operating under Continuous Operating Power (COP) mode, with a total installed capacity of 1,280 kW. This represents a significant reinforcement of the energy capacity currently available on Maio Island.

Developed for Empresa de Produção de Eletricidade de Cabo Verde – EPEC, S.A., with whom WinPower maintains a long-standing relationship built on proximity, trust and collaboration, the project was designed to respond to the island’s current operational realities and future energy needs.

The scope includes the implementation of a remote monitoring and operation system, enabling integration with the central dispatch system and creating the conditions for the island’s future integration into the national energy network.

In parallel, local teams will receive specialised training, ensuring long-term operational efficiency, knowledge transfer and the sustainable operation of the new infrastructure.

More than an increase in installed power, this project represents another step towards a more resilient, reliable and future-ready energy system for Cabo Verde.
