WinPower and Cabeólica Partner for a Pioneer Battery Energy Storage System in Cabo Verde
WinPower, S.A. is proud to announce the signing of two full EPC contracts with Cabeólica, S.A. for the development and installation of a cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across four islands in Cabo Verde – Santiago, Sal, Boa Vista and São Vicente. This project, with a total capacity of 26 MW and 26MWh, represents major milestone in the country’s journey towards renewable integration and sustainable and secure energy.
This ambitious initiative reflects a deep partnership between WinPower and Cabeólica. Both companies share a vision of advancing sustainable energy infrastructure. The BESS will seamlessly integrate renewable energy sources (primarily wind farms and photovoltaic (PV) systems) into the national power grid. The system will provide essential services, such as frequency regulation and power balancing and, this way, ensures grid stability and enhances the reliability of the renewable energy supply, reducing reliance on conventional fossil fuels.
Set to begin implementation in Q2 2025, the project is expected to be fully operational by Q1 2026.
