30/15 kV Distribution Substation

The Siemens/WinPower Consortium was formed to make possible the design, supply, erection, and commissioning of the 30/15 kV substation in São Roque. This initiative aims to enhance the flexibility of the island’s distribution grid, replacing the outdated substation, which is currently located inside the island’s Thermoelectrical Power Plant.

The primary objective of this new facility is to manage all medium-voltage (MV) distribution lines of Pico, with a focus on the reinforcement of the connections to Madalena substation (through a new 30 kV overhead transmission line built by EDA), and the Lajes do Pico substation.

Additionally, the consortium is responsible for the installation of two 30/15 kV step-down transformers, which will supply the new 15 kV busbars, forming the origin of the 15 kV grid on Pico island.

To accommodate all the equipment required for the operation of the new substation, a dedicated building will be built, as well as an outdoor equipment park designed for power transformers and related components.

As an integral part of the local distribution electrical grid, this new substation will significantly strengthen EDA’s electrical infrastructures by improving system reliability and substantially increasing the required availability indexes.

Our Solution
