On July 25, WinPower, S.A., through its project vehicle WP2X, formalised a strategic partnership with Floene and METALCÉRTIMA to develop a pioneering green hydrogen cluster in Oliveira do Bairro.
With a total investment of €8 million, the project is supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), includes €4.87 million in funding from the European Union’s Environmental Fund, and has been granted Project of Potential National Interest (PIN) status, underlining its strategic relevance to Portugal’s energy transition.
The signing ceremony was attended by Duarte Novo, Mayor of Oliveira do Bairro, reinforcing the strong collaboration between the project promoters, local authorities and the national energy ecosystem.
The project will produce green hydrogen using renewable electricity and industrial wastewater, in a region with a strong industrial tradition, with the aim of decarbonising the ceramics sector, strengthening territorial cohesion, and promoting an integrated and sustainable approach to energy production.
Floene will be responsible for managing the gas network connection, enabling the injection of up to 17.5 GWh per year of hydrogen into the distribution network, corresponding to approximately 3% of the energy currently supplied to the local network.
With operations scheduled to begin in early 2027, this project represents, for WinPower and WP2X, a strategic step forward in expanding their role across the hydrogen value chain, reinforcing their commitment to decarbonisation, enhancing local energy autonomy, and supporting sustainable industrial growth in Portugal.
