WinPower has been awarded with two contracts for the supply and implementation of four BESS (Battery Energy Storage Facilities) facilities, located in Santiago, Sal, São Vicente and Boa Vista islands, in Cabo Verde.
Our Client, Cabeólica, is one of the most prominent independent energy producers in Cabo Verde, primarily due to their windfarm operations.
Each of these BESS units has three main goals:
- Reduction of CO2 emissions;
- Increase the penetration of renewable energy on the grid, from 20% to 30%, in line with the Agenda 2030 targets,
- Enhance power quality in Cabo Verde, leveraging the capabilities of this advanced storage technology.
The BESS power plants of Santiago and Sal will be located near Cabeólica’s windfarms, with energy injected into the 20 kV busbars of each windfarm. In São Vicente and Boa Vista, the plants will be built near the thermoelectrical power plants, serving as injection points into the national grid.
These new Cabeólica facilities will strengthen the electrical infrastructure by improving system reliability and substantially increasing availability indexes.
This project, will enhance energy transmission capacity to the grid, increasing the volume of available energy for consumption and boosting revenue through increased sales. Its scope includes the design, installation, and commissioning of the windfarm’s electrical balance of plant and a warehouse in Santiago, under a Turnkey EPC contract signed in November, 2024.
Our Solution
Design, Supply, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning of four new BESS facilities (3 × 6 MW / 6 MWh for Santiago, Sal, and Boa Vista islands and 8 MW / 8 MWh for São Vicente), including civil works and all related auxiliary systems, enhanced with a local Energy Management System (EMS).
