Adaptation of Boa Vista’s Medium Voltage Network
for Integration into the National Dispatch System

The WinPower/C&S Engenharia consortium has been awarded the contract for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of the infrastructure required to integrate the 20 kV electrical network of Boa Vista Island into Cabo Verde’s National Dispatch System.

The project includes the construction of new electrical substations, the refurbishment of existing facilities, and the modernization of critical network equipment, including the replacement of Medium Voltage switchgear and oil-immersed distribution transformers. It also includes the installation of new auxiliary DC power supply systems (24 VDC), creating the necessary conditions for the future implementation of automation and telecommunications systems.

This intervention represents a key step in the modernization of the island’s electrical network, enhancing its reliability, operational flexibility, and ability to integrate into a centralized management system for the national power grid.

Our Solution

WinPower, in partnership with C&S Engenharia, is delivering a comprehensive EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) solution, covering all project phases, from detailed engineering through supply, construction, installation, and commissioning.

The solution includes:

Construction of new 20 kV substations;
Refurbishment and modernization of existing facilities;
Supply and installation of Low and Medium Voltage switchgear;
Installation of protection, metering, and control systems;
Implementation of auxiliary systems, including HVAC and DC power supply;
Execution of all associated civil and structural works;
Testing, system integration, and final commissioning.

The adopted approach ensures a technologically advanced solution based on state-of-the-art equipment and proven engineering and execution methodologies.

The Results

The project will enable the integration of Boa Vista’s electrical network into the National Dispatch System, creating the foundations for the future implementation of advanced automation and telecommunications systems.

The modernization of the electrical infrastructure will contribute to safer, more efficient, and more reliable network operation, reducing operational risks and unplanned outages while ensuring high levels of performance, availability, and operational sustainability.
