WinPower, S.A. delivered the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in São Vicente for Cabeólica, S.A., marking a new milestone in Cabo Verde’s energy transition.
With an installed capacity of 8 MW / 8 MWh, the São Vicente BESS is currently the largest system of its kind in the country and represents an important step towards a more stable, resilient and sustainable power system across the archipelago.
This project strengthens grid stability, supports the integration of renewable energy and reinforces energy security in an island-based system where resilience, flexibility and operational reliability are critical.
As EPC contractor, WinPower, S.A. was responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the system, ensuring full technical integration with the existing infrastructure and compliance with high safety and operational standards.
The São Vicente BESS is part of a broader energy storage programme currently being developed in Cabo Verde, contributing to the modernisation of the national power system and supporting the country’s long-term objectives for renewable energy integration and energy resilience.
Projects such as this demonstrate the growing role of energy storage as a cornerstone of modern power systems, particularly in island contexts where grid stability and renewable integration are essential to a secure and sustainable energy future.
WinPower congratulates Cabeólica on this important achievement and acknowledges all partners involved in the successful delivery of this milestone.
